What is the 24-hour Rhythm Holter?

The Rhythm Holter is a very common and simple non-invasive recording test that allows continuous monitoring of the heart rate for a period of usually 24 to 48 hours. These recorders are small portable devices that record the electrical activity of the heart. Each type of such recorder has unique properties regarding the recording duration, quality and analysis of the electrical signals of the heart.

What does the Heart Rate Holter show?

The Rhythm Holter is worn during your daily activities, including sleep, and can be worn for up to 7 days. The Rhythm Holter records the electrical activity of the heart for a specific period of time and gives data to the cardiologist to diagnose any rhythm problems and recommend appropriate treatment.

Placement

Electrodes are placed on the skin of the breast. Cables connect the electrodes to a small box-wearable recorder, which is worn on the belt or on a special strap on the shoulder. Electrical impulses are recorded continuously and stored in the Rhythm Holter. For as long as you wear the Rhythm Holter, you will be asked to keep a diary of your activities and symptoms, such as:

- "Fluttering" in your chest.

- Episodes of shortness of breath.

- Chest pain.

- Dizziness or prolapses.

The data are analysed in a detailed manner using special software. The main information obtained in each case is the recording of episodes of bradycardia or tachycardia and the measurement of the average heart rate throughout the 24-hour period and separately during the day and night.
